Issues on changing Belarusian money: where and how much Belarusian rubles one should buy, buying value of Belarusian rubles, plastic card use in Belarus.

How many roubles do I need to start my Belarus tour?

updated on 14/10/2016

Since you pay the Belarus consular fee and Belarus medical insurance fee in foreign cash (dollars or euro) you will not need Belarusian currency until you are outside of the Minsk airport building. There are two ways to get Belarusian rubles: BPS-Sberbank and Belarusbank currency exchange kiosks on the 3rd floor (section 1-2). They have also installed an ATM in front of the passports control booths.

MSQ Minsk Airport, Section 1-2. Currency exchange kiosks are closer to gate 1-2

You will need at least BYN 4 to buy a bus ticket to Minsk where you will most likely take metro to the address of stay (BYN 0.55 per ride). So change at least USD 10-20. Taxi drivers will gladly accept hard currency.

The official currency exchange rate is almost the same across the country.
